In a recent development during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s power-hitter Tim David has been fined for breaching the league’s Code of Conduct during a match against Mumbai Indians.
The incident occurred during the MI vs RCB clash on April 12, 2026, at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The match was a high-scoring thriller, with RCB posting 240/4 and defeating Mumbai Indians by 18 runs.
Tim David came under scrutiny for his on-field conduct during the death overs. As per official reports, he violated Article 2.4 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to disobeying umpire instructions.
The incident took place twice — during the 18th over (17.2) and again in the final over (19.2) — where David delayed returning the ball despite repeated instructions from the umpires. His actions briefly disrupted the flow of the game.
Following the match, the IPL governing body reviewed the incident and imposed a fine of 25% of his match fees, along with one demerit point. The decision was officially announced on April 13, 2026.
David accepted the sanction, as Level 1 offences are final and cannot be appealed. While the incident did not affect the result, it has once again highlighted the importance of discipline in high-pressure IPL matches.
